The practical brain behind the pretty

Hi, I’m Rachel Morgan—DIY home decor writer and practical home stylist. I live in Duluth, Minnesota, where half the year basically begs for warm light, cozy textures, and a home that works even when you’re hauling in boots and groceries at the same time.

I’m always watching how a room actually gets used—where keys land, how light shifts, and what becomes a pile.

My love of home projects started the way it does for a lot of people: making do with what I had. When you’re stretching a budget, you learn fast which changes are worth the effort—paint that hides scuffs, lighting that makes everything look calmer, and storage that doesn’t create new clutter.

Homespun Style grew out of friends and family asking for the steps, not just the idea. They didn’t need another mood board—they needed measurements, options, and the realistic version of a project: uneven walls, weird angles, and the occasional “oops, that shelf is not level.”

What I share here is meant to be used. I focus on DIY projects, budget-friendly decorating, seasonal touches, renter-aware upgrades, and layout tweaks that make daily routines smoother—because I’m not interested in picture-perfect rooms that can’t handle real life.

My goal is simple: comfort you can live in. If you’re refreshing one corner on a weeknight or slowly reimagining a whole space, I’ll help you choose projects that hold up, look good, and fit how you actually move through your home.
