Another frigid day in the northeast and the kids are off from school so I’m hanging out here for as long as no one notices .... trying out some new crocheted garland ideas and sipping mocha coffee. Plaid and grainsack pillows are in my Etsy shop. Link in bio. Happy Friday!❄️☕️
I’m still working on this bedroom makeover that began in 2018 but wanted to share how to dramatically change the scale of a window (and bring more light into the room) simply by mounting the window treatments beyond the edges of the window. Here, we mounted the bamboo shade so that the top of the window actually starts at the bottom of the shade when its pulled up and the curtain panels stack on either side of the window. It gives the illusion of a much larger window in this small bedroom and lets in much needed light. Curtains are cb2.com and shade is walmart.com. Swipe left to see the difference this simple change can make!☀️
It took me forever to figure out how to combine beach + cold weather + Christmas at the beach house so these decorations are staying up for awhile.🤣 In the end, I took my cues from New England coastal homes ... traditional evergreens with a hint of beach elements. The little blue spruce is a balled tree so that will get planted later this year. I added some resin starfish and wired on some real ones for a tree topper. Tap for a few sources. Belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🎄🥂
The only gifts I’ve wrapped so far are the ones that needed to be mailed. I keep my wrapping simple: brown kraft paper, a pretty ribbon and a tag. I love grosgrain, velvet and satin ribbons and over the years I’ve amassed a collection from shopping the Hallmark store after-Christmas sales and thrift shops. Basic kraft paper works for any occasion. The plaid tags are a free download from @inspiredbycharm. They are super cute and I love that they are two-sided, reversing to a solid plaid. And now it’s time to get back to baking teacher and bus driver gifts! 🎁
Adding a little Christmas to the beach house kitchen ... some faux pine garland with tiny white lights to frame the window, along with a home spun dried orange garland and paperwhites growing on the counter. There’ll be a gingerbread house for the island later this week. It’s feelin’ cozy in here although I think a small rug in front of the sink might be in order yet. So glad we still have another weekend before the big day!
Swipe left to see these stockings in their previous life! And check out my new blog post on the 6 things I made from a $1 thrifted sweater! Link in bio. Happy thrifting!
